Picture of derelict houses at Stanley Street in NelsonI am concerned that the massive amounts of money available for regenerating some of the dilapidated areas of terraced housing across Pendle are not being used effectively. The long-debated proposals for the Whitefield area of Nelson, stalled again, are a case in point.

Many of these areas have become derelict after houses were purchased compulsorily by the local council and have been boarded up

The good work that has been done in some parts of Whitefield and Brierfield through the Government’s Elevate initiative is being overshadowed by the collapse of the arrangements between the Whitefield Regeneration Project and R.Gen, the company contracted to undertake the redevelopment work in Whitefield.

Lancashire County Council has proposed detailed plans for the development of Primary Schools in the Whitefield area to cope with the increasing number of young children reaching school age. This is being put on hold because of the problems with the regeneration partnership.

I have asked all the partners involved to do their very best to get things back on track. Whitefield has been blighted for far too long.
